Indiana Estate & Elder Law is celebrating its 25th year of guiding Indiana families through the legal decisions that shape their futures and protect the people they love. The firm helps clients create and maintain effective estate plans, navigate long-term care needs, and manage probate and post-death administration. They also work with business and farm owners to ensure their life’s work is protected and carried forward.
In 2001, attorney Susan Hunter founded the firm that would become Indiana Estate & Elder Law as Hunter Law Office. As she counseled clients in business succession strategies, Hunter realized her clients deserved the same thoughtful planning to ensure continuity of services. In 2019, after working as attorneys at Hunter Law Office, husband and wife Justin Schuhmacher and Jennifer (Jenny) Rozelle took ownership of the firm.
“We’re so grateful to Susan for laying the foundation for success,” says Rozelle. “She truly practiced what she preached, and she built a plan for the law firm to continue beyond her tenure, rather than relying on her presence to sustain it.”
Beginning as a single law office in Fishers, the firm has expanded over the years to include branch offices in Rockville, Wabash and Franklin. In addition to Hunter’s groundwork, Rozelle and Schuhmacher say a team-based approach, intentional growth strategies, and a commitment to the firm’s core values have been essential to their success.
As estate and elder law attorneys, Rozelle and Schuhmacher know the value of planning for the unexpected. When clients have the support of a full team, life events that impact a single attorney or team member don’t derail plans and progress.
A focus on meeting the needs of communities drives the law firm’s plans for expansion. Many rural areas in Indiana lack access to the services Indiana Estate & Elder Law provides, leaving families and individuals without experienced guidance.
“Our goal is to continue expanding beyond the Indianapolis area in a thoughtful way to bring estate and elder law services into these communities,” Rozelle says. “That way, more Hoosiers have access to the kind of planning and support that can truly make a difference for their families over time.”
The team at Indiana Estate & Elder Law is committed to the firm’s core values: client-first service, approachable professionalism, extreme commitment to quality, honest accountability, and unstoppable promotion of the firm.
“We want every client to have the kind of service we would provide to a family member or one of our fellow employees here,” says Schuhmacher. “That premise has been central to our mission and vision from the beginning.”
Over 25 years, Indiana Estate & Elder Law has grown into a firm with a clear sense of purpose and an expanding presence, ensuring that families across Indiana have access to experienced, thoughtful legal guidance when it matters most. The firm’s 25th anniversary stands as a testament to its values and philosophy. By building a practice designed to outlast any one individual, the firm has done for itself exactly what it helps clients do every day—plan thoughtfully for the future.
